If you love the outdoors, Rock Lake is 10 minutes away where you can enjoy boating, fishing and camping at Rock Lake Beach and Trails End campgrounds. A walking trail was built within town limits. The Louise Recreation District organizes activities such as aerobics, computer courses, crafts and much more. Stay-Fit Health Center Centre is just 5 minutes away as well as a wonderful golf course.
Crystal City is known for its cultural and musical talents. Parklane Theatre hosts concerts, the Manitoba Theatre Centre touring show, local drama and music productions and school concerts. The Gala Concert for Rock Lake Festival of the Arts - a great opportunity for anyone with the love of music - is held each year. Local music teachers share their talents through lessons for young or old. There are many opportunities to get involved with the local church musicians and choirs.
If sports are more your interest, afternoon or evening curling is always a great way to meet people. If you prefer to watch, there's always a seat in the waiting room and of course coffee and a snack! Crystal City has a senior hockey team called the 49-ers you can come out to cheer for, as well as high school boys' and girls' teams and minor hockey teams play at the arena. These teams are made up by combining players from the surrounding communities which is one more plus in getting to know Crystal City and area. A figure skating club encompasses skaters from the surrounding towns. Each year the communities enjoy their skating show - costumes, music and lights and what fun! A snowmobile trail runs through close to the town on what was once the railroad track, part of the many trails groomed by the Pembina Valley Snowkickers Snowmobile Club. It's a fun way to spend the clean, crisp winters. For the skiing enthusiast, it's just a 20-minute drive to the closest ski resort.
Crystal City has a campground in the middle of town where you can enjoy camping along with playground facilities for any of your young campers or visitors. There is a Memorial Garden set in our downtown area where you can take time to enjoy the flowers and plants as well as sit and rest. It is quite beautiful and a real gem in the busy downtown area.
Crystal City hosts Country Carnival in July - an opportunity for visiting and having fun. In September, Crystal City Raceway is the spot to be for those who enjoy the thrills of a demolition derby. The annual smorgasbord is held in October - a great place for the community to celebrate the fall, have a visit, and of course have a piece of pie! Santa comes to town in December on Santa Night in the "Old Park" where tree lighting takes place. A night parade, visit with Santa, bonfire and cup of hot chocolate gives everyone a chance to enjoy the holiday season.
There are many clubs and organizations you can join and keep yourself busy with. Seniors meet at the Friendship Centre to play pool, shuffleboard, cards, or borrow books from the small library. It's the friendly place to meet people.
